Eng Review

Hazelwood is the new global phenomenon in romance literature, with her books featuring women in STEM stealing the hearts of readers across tiktok.
I haven’t read any of her book, even though I wanted to read them at some point. But then I found out she was writing a paranormal romance about a Vampyre and a Werewolf. So I did whatever a sane person would do, I immediately requested the ARC from Penguin Random House and oh boiii I wasn’t disappointed.
But what is the book about?
The book follows Misery Lark, who is the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, who is forced, in order to restore peace between vampyres and weres, to marry the Alpha of the rival wolf pack, Lowe Moreland. Of course, Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage with her mortal enemy, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she’s ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.
It was a slow burn, enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience, (kinda) mafia romance and I couldn’t wait for the moment Lowe would growl «MINE» under his breath…. OH MY GOD.
It’s just the book we pnr*** girlies need in our lives.

Hazelwood’s writing was so beautiful and I just couldn’t put the book down. And yet it wasn’t like the other Hazelwood books. I discussed the book with other people who got the ARC (I was in need for emotional support so I reached out to complete strangers okay?) and some of them had read more books from Hazelwood, they said that the writing wasn’t exactly the same. So I put my Sherlock Holmes hat and read two chapter from «The Love Hypothesis» and fount out myself. They were right of course. The writing was the same but it didn’t have the same feeling. I don’t know how to explain it. She went beyond the rules of contemporary romance and used all the rules of pnr and I love her for this. With this book you can see she was heavily influenced from the fanfiction scene, because you can she many omegaverse tropes you don’t usually find in traditionally published books. Yeah, we all knew «The Love Hypothesis» was a Reylo fanfiction, and if you didn’t now you know, but believe me there are fanfictions and there are Fanfictions.
As for the characters, I just loved the. Misery really wasn’t a vampyre like everyone else. She had black cat energy, but at the same time she was sweet and overprotective. Lowe, on the other hand, even though he tried to come off as tough and intimidating and he was for the most part, he also had golden retriever energy. He was willing to put himself in danger just to keep everyone else safe. But the thing I loved the most it was how the were influencing each other to be the better version of themselves. THEY WERE SUCH A CUTE COUPLE OKAY?
I would like, though, to see a little bit more of the other characters and more of the world building itself. Hazelwood created a new lore for vampyres and weres and I wish she could show us a bit more of this. I also would like to know exactly what happened in this marriage everyone was referring to. I would like to know more about how Lowe lived when he was away from his pack and what the previous Alpha did. I would like to know more about the years Misery was a collateral for Humans. I wanted to know how the mutations was created and we end up with two new species (vampyres-werewolves). That’s it, I just wanted more from the world building.
However, she didn’t hold back at the romance. Hazelwood isn’t just good at writing romance, but she knows how to feed it to you bit by bit and make you say thank you. Quotes that are so sweet you are dying. Situations between our main couple that just made me smile like there’s no tomorrow. And trust me I enjoyed every single moment of it.
Don’t you think for a second that it’s an innocent book. It had spice. It may be a little bit slow burn, but when it got there… it got there. And it hadn’t the cute fluffy spice, but the spice us pnr girlies know and love and the rest of the world find weird. That kind of spice. Let’s just say that our boy has a little bit of a breeding kink and let’s stay there. But you know what? I was here for it! For every sexual tension and every almost kiss, for every stare and every smile, I was here for it and I was eating it like a good girl nom nom nom.
I love it when authors experiment, and I love that Hazelwood didn’t just stay in contemporary romance with only Stem novels, but stepped out of her comfort zone and gave it a go. And you know something? She did a great job in her first paranormal romance and I really hope she writes more in the genre. She gave us some good foundation for two more books in the same world. For example, I would like a Koen book and an Owen book, I would enjoy them.
Most importantly, Hazelwood made a part of me happy that I thought was no longer there. Teenage Erato was just giggling and smiling. I really thank Hazelwood for this.
That’s all we had time today. Let me know if you’ll be reading it and see you next time.
